We don't have before photos of this house, but the photos to the left were taken during the installation of the flooring. You can see how the installer had to weave the new wood in with the old to make it match. The whole floor was then sanded and varnished as one. The shot below was taken from the front door.
In the pictures above, below, and immediately to the left, you can see the quarter round that is added to the bottom of the trim.
In the picture below you can see two transitions to tile.
